"Words Are But Pictures of Our Thoughts"

My passion for reading and writing, as well as my compassion for others, has lead me to desire a career in which I will be working with young adults each and every day in order to help them find a new found love and appreciation for literature. In order to create a meaningful environment and acquire a significant learning outcome, it is important to create connections between students personal lives and the works with which they are studying. Showing students the relevance that each work has to their own individual lives, our society as a whole, and the themes and conflicts we are each faced with daily, helps to create a spark of interest among students. This can be implemented through student-centered learning during instruction. Utilizing technology and media within the classroom is also extremely valuable because it allows for differentiated instruction and leads students to use different mediums. Using technology in the classroom helps prepare students for living in the twenty first century by encouraging them to keep up with current technological advantages. Implementing technology allows students to work at their own pace through independent instruction and gives students a kinesthetic learning experience.
I want to help my students understand and explore their full potential in areas of reading and writing, as well as in other areas in which they may have never explored before. As an educator it is my duty to encourage my students each and everyday to reach their full potential and to make discoveries, both academically in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, as well as in areas with which they may have never explored before. Building a strong rapport with my students is one of the most valuable and important things as an educator to do because in order to be an effective teacher, my students must understand and believe that I care about each and every one of them. While focusing on the development of my students and maintaining a safe and constructive learning environment, I look forward to continuing my growth as an educator.
This website was created in order to display a preview of my abilities and ambitions as a educator of young adults. As a recent graduate from Bloomsburg University, I have obtained a degree in teaching literature at the secondary level. I have developed skills and techniques to help create an interactive, educational, and safe classroom environment in which my students can grow both academically and develop in personal and meaningful ways. Throughout this website you will see numerous artifacts that display my growth and development as an educator throughout my time at Bloomsburg University and throughout my student teaching experience. I have included numerous sample artifacts within this website from my student teaching experiences and the work I developed throughout my college career including; feedback from my students, a unit plan, lesson plans, various forms of media I have implemented, certificates and awards I have received, research I have compiled pertaining to diversity within the classroom, samples of my college writing, my resume, and student artifacts from my two student teaching placements including; artifacts from freshman, juniors, and seniors. I have included these artifacts in order to show my personal growth, abilities, beliefs, and creativity as an English educator and to express my ideas of what makes a good English Language Arts instructor.
